From May 1st 2023, riders will only be able to use padded whips at NSEA jumping competitions, in line with other Bodies horse welfare standards. This gives riders and parents time to buy a padded whip during the Easter holidays.
However, the NSEA is also keen to educate riders in the appropriate use of the whip, as a reinforcement of a leg aid and never when disgruntled or after leaving the arena. Judges and officials will speak to any rider deemed to be using a whip excessively or inappropriately, in order to help raise standards of knowledge and the correct method of application.
